Andre Gerard Lyall Bessette, Canada

Before I had entered Cambodia I already knew about BCDO and planned on volunteering for one month. What I did not know was how many friends I would make, lessons I would learn and experiences that I would have.

The complete flexibility of this particular organization is something quite special. The ideas and concepts that Sopheap and Lim have based BCDO around are wholly good, involving environmental degradation and general poverty. This perspective has allowed the incorporation of social, economic and educational issues from the surrounding districts. Personally I believe BCDO’s ideology has surpassed those of any major corporation that have attempted to give aid to the Botumsakor region.

I have already agreed to be an international administrative assistant. The Botumsakor Community Development Organization is a good thing and with continued efforts will continue to be greatly beneficial for the community and Cambodia. The experience has allowed me to grow as a person and improve many skills, but without continued attention the project will not flourish. I would strongly encourage anyone to visit and volunteer with BCDO of the benefit of themselves and the community.

Thank you BCDO

Comment of Lili and Lilith from Germany, volunteers in December 2011

If we should describe this place and project, the people and life, we would like to draw a picture instead of using words, or compose a melody. Things that are more about feeling. There is always warm yellow sun, energy and love from the heart, there is growing green in the trees from children becoming responsible adults to new ideas coming up, there is blue calmness and space for silence in nature, there is an orange brown taking care of the environment and a violet welcome for everyone. Come and help this place and you will help yourself.

Volunteering at BCDO

While visiting Cambodia only as a tourist, I came by Andoung Toek village, Botumsakor district, Koh Kong Province! I met Lim, the executive director who knows a lot about organic farming and about the district, its people and its jungle! He talked to me about this very nice project he had started two years ago.

This organization is really avant-gardism in Cambodia and can be very valuable for the district since the sustainable development is not yet the main priority in this Country. Even if lots of organizations try to provide education to children within the country, this one is very particular thanks to this very good idea of teaching children not only English and how to behave with each other, but also: The Organic Farming and how to protect their environment!! The worth of their project is one thing (a very important one) but the other very important thing about this organization is that all the people working for it are very welcoming, care mostly about involving people in their project more than taking profit out of the tourism for their organization, and are 100% devoted to help the development of the district.

I really had a great time there and learn a lot. If anyone want to help in a worthful project and can give some of his/her time, you should definitively contact them!!!!

Thank you BCDO (or "busy do" ;) ) Take care, keep on doing a great job there, it will pay!!!

I met Sopheap and Lim at a random coffee break while cycling towards Kampong Som. They introduced me to their ideas of raising the standards of living for the locals, and protecting the environment by educting the next generation. They invited me to stay for a while to help them teaching English. However, being a non-native English speaker, I decided to support their project with creating and hosting a homepage, which you currently read.
